Arjan van der Laan had his final presentation on his master project on "Data-driven acoustic inspection of tool wear status"

The group congratulates Arjan van der Laan on the completion of his design project, titled "Data-driven Acoustic Inspection of Tool Wear Status", at Demcon together with company supervisors Remco Poelarends, Ger Folkersma, Johan de Wit, and second supervisor Nabeel Younas, PMP® from Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen.

The project explored the feasibility of using microphones as a contactless sensing solution to detect tool conditions under different wear stages. This preliminary study shows promising results for a novel integration of grey-box data-driven models with wideband acoustic signals, pointing to future applications in industrial inspection settings.
